Bottengarni kasti kõrgus on harilikult 3,5...9m, tiiva (vesiaed) pikkus 80...170m. Eestis kasutatakse bottengarni harilikult rändangerja püügiks Saare- ja Hiiumaal. Bottengarn on pärit Põhja-Ameerikast, Taani kaudu tuli 20. sajandi algul Rootsi ja 1929.a toodi A. Vikströmi algatusel katsetamiseks Eestisse (katsetajaks M.
