Kuradid on üleni võõbatud mustaks ning nad peavad kõikvõimalike esemetega tegema suurt kära ning tooma ristitavad Neptuni ette. Esimesena tervitab Neptunit kapten, kes teatab laeva andmed ning annab Neptunile henseldatavate nimekirja. Nood peavad põlvili vastama Neptuni küsimustele ning kannatlikult taluma neile korraldatavad ebaharilikud toimingud, nt habemeajamine rohelise seebi ja pika puunoaga, juuksepügamine puust hiigelkääride ja -kammiga, &quot;arstliku&quot; läbivaatuse, kuradite ulakused jmt. Leebema kohtlemise ärateenimiseks võib ristitav Neptuni ees tantsida, laulda, lugeda luuletusi jms. Henseldamine lõpeb tavakohase ohverdamisega: kuradid viskavad ristitava mereveega täidetud basseini, mispeale Neptun kuulutab ta täieõiguslikuks meremeheks, kellele siitpeale on antud vaba voli igal ajal ekvaatorit ületada. Selle tõendusena saab iga äsjaristitud meremees lõbusasisulise ristimistunnistuse. Kui kõik on henselduse läbi teinud, saab kapten Neptunilt ekvaatori &quot;võtme&quot; ning loa jätkata reisi. Nüüdisajal toob henseldamine üksluisesse merereisi vaheldust. Vanasti oli keerukas katsumus (nt kiilu alt läbitõmbamine) ka noorte meremeeste mehisuskatse. Nüüdisajal on henselduspidustus üles ehitatud Neptuni ja tema kaaskonna külaskäigule. Ekvaatori ületamisel kogunevad vabavahi mehed tekile, kuhu ilmub kolmhargiga Neptun oma saatjaskonnaga - ihukaitsjate, tähetarga, näki, habemeajaja, arsti ja kuraditega. Kuradid on üleni võõbatud mustaks ning nad peavad kõikvõimalike esemetega tegema suurt kära ning tooma ristitavad Neptuni ette. Esimesena tervitab Neptunit kapten, kes teatab laeva andmed ning annab Neptunile henseldatavate nimekirja. Nood peavad põlvili vastama Neptuni küsimustele ning kannatlikult taluma neile korraldatavad ebaharilikud toimingud, nt habemeajamine rohelise seebi ja pika puunoaga, juuksepügamine puust hiigelkääride ja -kammiga, &quot;arstliku&quot; läbivaatuse, kuradite ulakused jmt. Leebema kohtlemise ärateenimiseks võib ristitav Neptuni ees tantsida, laulda, lugeda luuletusi jms. Henseldamine lõpeb tavakohase ohverdamisega: kuradid viskavad ristitava mereveega täidetud basseini, mispeale Neptun kuulutab ta täieõiguslikuks meremeheks, kellele siitpeale on antud vaba voli igal ajal ekvaatorit ületada. Selle tõendusena saab iga äsjaristitud meremees lõbusasisulise ristimistunnistuse. Kui kõik on henselduse läbi teinud, saab kapten Neptunilt ekvaatori &quot;võtme&quot; ning loa jätkata reisi.
